Mumbai Indians (MI) opened their IPL 2026 campaign in style, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in a high-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium.
Winning the toss, MI opted to field first. KKR posted a formidable 220/4 in their 20 overs, with strong contributions from their batting lineup. However, the night belonged to MI’s batting stars.
Skipper Rohit Sharma set the tone with a blistering 78 off 38 balls, smashing six fours and six sixes. Wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton matched the fireworks with a commanding 81 off 43 deliveries, including eight towering sixes. Their partnership dismantled KKR’s bowling attack and kept MI ahead in the chase.
Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, Hardik Pandya’s composed 18* ensured MI crossed the line comfortably, finishing at 224/4 in 19.1 overs.
KKR’s bowlers struggled to contain the assault, with Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Sunil Narine picking up a wicket each but conceding heavily.
With this emphatic win, MI have signalled their intent early in IPL 2026, combining power-hitting with tactical precision to thrill the Wankhede crowd.
