A heartbreaking incident occurred in Tileimala village under Sinapali police station, Nuapada district, on Sunday morning when two young sisters drowned in a local pond.
The deceased have been identified as Yashoda Hans (8) and Gupteswari Hans (5), daughters of Nilakantha Hans. According to reports, the sisters had gone to the Darli pond around 11 a.m. with their mother, Usabati Hans. After completing her bath, the mother returned home, leaving the children at the pond.
When the girls did not return for a long time, their father went searching and discovered their clothes near the pond. Suspecting danger, he entered the water and found both daughters drowned.
Police led by Sinapali IIC Maheswar Panigrahi reached the spot, seized the bodies, and sent them to the Sinapali Community Health Centre for post-mortem. After examination, the bodies were handed over to the family. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
