Jannik Sinner captured the Miami Open title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jiri Lehecka on Sunday, completing the Sunshine Double.
The Italian star won both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season, becoming the first male player since Roger Federer in 2017 to achieve this milestone without dropping a set.
Sinner delivered a commanding performance despite two rain delays of 90 minutes each. He struck 10 aces in the final and totalled 70 across the tournament, the second-highest tally of his career. His precise groundstrokes forced Lehecka into constant defence, while his dominance on first serves created unstoppable momentum. At one point, Sinner won 23 consecutive points on his first serve, a streak that carried into the second set.
This victory marks Sinner’s second Miami Open title in three years and extends his winning streak at Hard Rock Stadium to 12 matches. He missed last year’s edition due to suspension, but his return showcased resilience and determination.
Historically, Sinner now stands as the eighth male player to complete the Sunshine Double. His triumph, paired with Aryna Sabalenka’s win over Coco Gauff the previous day, marks the first time since 2016 that both titles were claimed in the same year by two players.
Lehecka, 24, entered the final as an underdog, having lost all three previous encounters against Sinner. His run to the final, however, marked his first appearance in an ATP 1000 championship match.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a third-round upset against Sebastian Korda, while Novak Djokovic withdrew due to a shoulder injury. In women’s doubles, Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova defeated Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini 7-6 (7-0), 6-1, securing their first Miami title since 2019.
