Two youths died, and three sustained serious injuries in a tragic road accident near Jamunadhipa on National Highway-143 close to Rourkela late Sunday night.
The mishap occurred around 1:30 AM when a speeding black car, bearing registration number OD 14 AB 9836, lost control and rammed into Sonu Dhaba, a roadside eatery. The impact crushed the vehicle completely, leaving the site in devastation.
Five youths were travelling toward Rourkela when the accident struck. Two of them died instantly, while three others suffered severe injuries. The injured were rushed to Rourkela hospital for urgent treatment. All victims reportedly belonged to the TCI area.
Police teams from Biramitrapur and Kuarmunda reached the spot soon after the crash and began an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest over speeding as a major factor behind the accident, though the exact cause remains under inquiry.
The incident shocked locals, who gathered at the site in large numbers. The mangled remains of the car and the damaged eatery reflected the severity of the collision. Residents voiced concern over reckless driving on the highway, which has witnessed several accidents in recent months.
