Bhubaneswar: A rare species of yellow Anaconda died at Nandankanan Zoological Park following an illness on Wednesday.

It was among the ten anacondas kept in enclosure number 46 at the zoo. The exact cause of death of the snake is yet to be ascertained. However, it will be known after the post-mortem of the snake, said the zoo authorities.

As per reports, the anaconda was spotted lying inside the enclosure yesterday for a long time. Hence, the zoo authorities have called the veterinarians for its treatment. However, the reptile could not be saved.

The yellow anaconda, also known as the Paraguayan anaconda, is a boa species endemic to southern South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world but smaller than its close relative, the green anaconda. With the death of this reptile, only nine anacondas are left in the zoo.
