Ranji Semi-Final Lookahead: Bengal Take On MP, Mumbai Face UP

Mumbai: The semi-final stage of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season begins Tuesday, June 14.

Bengal will take on Madhya Pradesh in the first semi-final while Mumbai take on Uttar Pradesh in the second game. Both games will take place in Bengaluru.

Bengal sealed their spot in the last-four on the grounds of first innings lead after centuries from Sudip Kumar Gharami and Anstup Majumdar powered them to a mammoth total of 773/7d. Sayan Mondal (4-71) and Shahbaz Ahmed (4-51) grabbed four each as Jharkhand were bowled out for 298 in return.

Shubham Sharma’s magnificent 102-run knock, followed by a six-wicket haul from Kumar Kartikeya, who grabbed 6-50, helped Madhya Pradesh to a comfortable 10-wicket win in the fourth innings after Punjab were bowled for 219 and 203.

Mumbai stole the spotlight with a terrific 725-run win after a double century on debut from Suved Parkar (252) and a belligerent knock from Sarfaraz Khan (153) powered them to 647/8d in their first innings. Uttarakhand were bowled out for 114 and 69 on either side of Mumbai’s second innings total of 261/3d, helping them set a new record for the biggest win in terms of runs in First Class history. Super King Tushar Deshpande is a part of the Mumbai squad.

Uttar Pradesh sealed a comfortable 5-wicket win in the fourth innings, courtesy an unbeaten 93 from Karan Sharma after Karnataka set a 213-run target to take the game. Karnataka posted 253 in their first innings. Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 155 in their first innings. The Manish Pandey-led side were bowled for just 114 in the following innings, setting the 213-run target for Uttar Pradesh.
