Tamil superstar Rajinikanth finally addressed speculation surrounding his silence after C Joseph Vijay and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured a massive victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
During a press conference held at his residence in Poes Garden on Sunday morning, Rajinikanth strongly denied rumours claiming he was unhappy or jealous about Vijay becoming Chief Minister.
‘Rajini Is Not Cheap Or Low-Standard’
Responding to online speculation, Rajinikanth said he decided to speak publicly because false narratives were rapidly spreading.
“Rajini is not a cheap or low-standard person to speak unnecessarily about anything else,” the veteran actor stated firmly.
He also clarified that he had already congratulated Vijay through social media after the election results were announced.
Rajinikanth Says He Is Not Jealous Of Vijay
Addressing rumours about political rivalry, Rajinikanth dismissed claims that he was upset over Vijay’s rise in politics.
“I’m not even in politics, so why would I be jealous of Vijay?” he said.
Adding humour to the conversation, the superstar joked:
“Maybe if Kamal Haasan becomes the CM, I might get jealous,” drawing laughter during the press interaction.
Rajinikanth further pointed out the age difference between himself and Vijay, saying comparisons between them were unnecessary.
“There is a 25-year generation gap between Vijay and me. It won’t look good if we compete,” he added.
Rajinikanth Praises Vijay’s Political Achievement
The actor praised Vijay’s remarkable political success at the age of 52, comparing it to legendary actor-politicians of South India.
According to Rajinikanth, Vijay achieved something extraordinary by defeating both the BJP and regional rivals in Tamil Nadu.
“At the age of 52, he has achieved more than MGR and NTR,” Rajinikanth remarked.
He described Vijay’s victory as a “surprise-filled happiness” and extended his best wishes to the new Chief Minister.
Why Rajinikanth Met MK Stalin
Rajinikanth also addressed criticism over meeting M K Stalin after the election results.
He clarified that the meeting was purely personal and rooted in friendship beyond politics.
“I felt saddened that MK Stalin was defeated in Kulathur,” Rajinikanth explained.
Rajinikanth Defends Absence From Swearing-In Ceremony
The superstar was also criticised online for not attending Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony.
Responding to this, Rajinikanth said he has never attended oath-taking ceremonies of Chief Ministers in the past.
“Have you ever seen me attending the swearing-in ceremonies of past CMs?” he questioned.
Rajinikanth Earlier Supported Vijay During Jana Nayagan Leak
Rajinikanth had earlier publicly supported Vijay after the HD print of his final film Jana Nayagan leaked online in April.
He strongly condemned piracy and demanded strict punishment against those responsible for leaking the film.
On election result day, Rajinikanth had also posted a congratulatory message to Vijay and his party on social media.
