A young woman was found hanging from a tree near B. Maliguda village under Nandahandi block in Nabarangpur district on Saturday morning, triggering suspicion of murder.
Villagers spotted the body and informed Nabarangpur police. A team led by Additional SP Aditya Sen, SDPO Krishna Chandra Bhatra, Sub‑Inspectors Sabir Ahmad and Seema Lakra, and Dongarbheja outpost officer Tulasi Ram Pujari reached the spot. A scientific team also joined the investigation.
Officials recovered the body in the presence of Nandahandi Tahsildar Chandra Das Mahanandia and sent it for post‑mortem to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital.
The deceased was identified as 18‑year‑old Netramani Mali of Chiliguda village. She had reportedly been living with Naresh Pujari of Maliguda for the past month after developing a relationship with him. Her body was found hanging from a tree near Naresh’s house, raising suspicion among locals and her family.
Family members alleged that Netramani was murdered and demanded strict action against the accused. Police detained Naresh, his father Madhu Pujari, and his grandfather Jagannath Pujari for questioning.
Nabarangpur police registered Case No. 189/26 and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the cause of death.
