A major pipeline carrying petrol from ships to the IOCL oil terminal burst today inside the prohibited/restricted zone of Paradip Port in Odisha, causing thousands of litres of fuel to spill and soak into the ground.
The incident occurred while petrol was being transferred from a vessel to the terminal through the pipeline. Officials suspect excessive pressure inside the line caused the rupture. The leaked petrol quickly spread across the soil in the sensitive port area, raising immediate concerns over fire hazards and environmental contamination.

As soon as the leak was detected, teams from Paradip Port CISF, the fire department, and IOCL’s own fire wing rushed to the spot. Emergency containment and repair work is currently underway. Security has been significantly tightened and fire safety measures strengthened across the area to prevent any spark or accident.
No injuries have been reported so far, and authorities are working to control the situation and assess the extent of soil contamination. Further details on the volume of the spill and long-term environmental impact are awaited.
