In a significant step towards transforming the state capital into a modern, smart, and sustainable urban centre, the Odisha Cabinet has approved the much-awaited Underground Sewerage Project for Bhubaneswar.
The approval was granted during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday.
The project will be implemented by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in its Town Planning (TP) Schemes 1, 2, and 3 areas. The Cabinet has accorded administrative approval to the results of the tendering process under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract mode. The selected agency is New Delhi-based SS Technocraft Ventures Limited.
The total project cost has been pegged at ₹175.47 crore (including GST). The scope includes both execution of works and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) responsibilities for the next five years after completion.
Watco (Water Corporation of Odisha) will execute the project in coordination with BDA, keeping in view the town planning perspective to improve livability and maintain environmental balance in the city.
Project Highlights
• Sewer Network: 78.29 km of sewer lines
• Manholes: 3,642 manholes for efficient maintenance
• Pumping Stations: 6 modern sewage pumping stations
• Rising Main: 7.5 km of DI pipes
• Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): 20 MLD capacity Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology-based plant at Paikrapur
