A low-pressure area over the Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal remains active, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above sea level.

The system is expected to move west-northwest towards Sri Lanka over the next 24 hours and gradually weaken.

However, a new cyclonic circulation that formed on Thursday is likely to intensify into another low-pressure area within the next 24 hours. This development has prompted forecasts of light rainfall in parts of Odisha on February 23 and 24.

No rain warning has been issued by either the India Meteorological Department (IMD) or the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre. Still, isolated light showers are anticipated.

On February 23, light rain is likely at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Khordha, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts.

On February 24, similar conditions are expected in Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.

The state is currently experiencing mainly dry weather, with both day and night temperatures on the rise. Night temperatures across plains and hills have climbed above 10°C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 11.5°C in Semiliguda (hilly region) and 11.9°C in Rourkela (plains). Thursday’s highest daytime temperature was 34.2°C in Jharsuguda.

Light fog is likely in Puri, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts over the next two days, according to Regional Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty.

After a prolonged winter spell, warmer conditions are returning to Odisha. Night temperatures are expected to rise by 2–3°C over the next five days. By the night of February 24, several locations—including Paralakhemundi, Gopalpur, Chhatrapur, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Bargarh, and Titlagarh—are likely to record minimum temperatures above 20°C. From February 25 onwards, dry weather is expected to dominate as heat intensifies across the state.
