Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday hiked the stipend of house surgeons of government medical colleges.
The government has enhanced the stipends of house surgeons from Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000. The hike will be in effect for three years from January 2021. Following this, house surgeons called off their protest.
A letter in this regards was addressed to the Directorate of Medical Education And Training.
”The government have been pleased to enhance the monthly stipend of the House Surgeons of the government Medical Colleges of the State from Rs 20 000 to Rs. 28.000/- per month. This enhancement will be effective from 01.01 2021 and will prevail for a period of three years. The expenditure to this effect shall be met from the budget provision made under the appropriate Head of Account for respective Medical College & Hospitals,” the letter read.
Reportedly, the move came after medicos threatened agitations over the demand for hike in stipend amount.
Overworked and underpaid, resident doctors earlier demanded higher stipend.
