The State government is formulating guidelines to restrict obscenity in Jatra shows, informed Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Minister Suryabansi Suraj in the Assembly today.
In a written response to Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati’s query, the Culture Minister stated that the state government is earnestly considering measures to curb obscenity by Jatra troupes. He mentioned that guidelines are currently being drafted for this purpose.
Previously, the former BJD government had mandated all District Magistrates and SPs to ban obscene dances and dialogues with ‘double meanings’ in Jatra and melody events.
However, despite these directives, the “indecent dance” acts purportedly persisted in the Jatra performances to attract larger audiences.
