As many as 594 Odisha government employees were arrested on bribery charges over the past five years, informed Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the Legislative Assembly today in response to MLA Kadraka Appala Swamy’s query.
The Vigilance Department recorded 447 cases against government employees from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023. In the same timeframe, 594 employees faced charges for bribery, the CM stated.
In the past five years, 911 Vigilance cases have concluded in court. Of these, 30 cases originated within this period.
Out of the 30 recent cases, Vigilance Courts convicted 11 government employees, acquitted 12, and closed 7 cases due to the accused’s demise during the trial, informed the CM.
