Bhubaneswar: In a significant move, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi declared the recent depression-induced untimely rain as a ‘State Calamity’ during the ‘Krushi Odisha’ event held in Bhubaneswar.
This announcement comes as a relief to the farming community, which has been severely impacted by the unexpected weather conditions.
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the affected farmers.
He announced that assistance would be provided from the Revenue and Disaster Management relief fund to those who have incurred over 33 percent of agricultural loss. “Our farmers are the backbone of our state, and it is our duty to stand by them in these challenging times,” he stated.
According to reports, over 6.6 lakh farmers across the state have been affected by the untimely rain, which has caused extensive damage to crops. The government has earmarked Rs 291 crore in financial assistance to be released for the damaged crops, covering approximately 2.91 lakh hectares of agricultural land.
The Chief Minister assured that the relief measures would be implemented swiftly to ensure that the farmers receive the necessary support without delay. He also highlighted the importance of building resilient agricultural practices to mitigate the impact of such unforeseen weather events in the future.
The announcement has been welcomed by the farming community, who have been grappling with significant losses due to the adverse weather conditions. The financial assistance is expected to provide much-needed relief and help the farmers recover from the damages incurred.
