The Odisha Legislative Assembly has taken serious note of a privilege motion filed by Narla MLA Manorama Mohanty against the Kesinga SDPO and his police team, alleging forcible entry and misconduct at her official residence during the ongoing Assembly session.
Acting on the Speaker’s direction, the Assembly Secretariat has asked the Home Department to submit a detailed report within 15 days. The communication, issued by Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout, IAS, cites Mohanty’s complaint that police personnel led by the SDPO entered her Government Quarter No. DS 15/2, Unit‑4, MLA Colony, Bhubaneswar, damaged property, and allegedly misbehaved with her daughter and domestic help.
The letter, dated 28 July 2026, emphasises that the matter should be treated as urgent, underscoring the Assembly’s concern over the sanctity of legislative privilege.
Officials said the Speaker directed the Secretariat to ensure accountability and transparency in the probe, marking one of the rare instances where a sitting MLA has invoked privilege against law‑enforcement personnel.
The Home Department’s report will be placed before the Speaker for consideration once submitted.
