The Change of Guard Ceremony at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan will not take place on August 1 and 8, 2026, officials confirmed.
The suspension is due to rehearsals for the Independence Day Ceremony, which require full deployment of ceremonial contingents.
The weekly event, known for its grandeur and precision drills, typically showcases the formal handover of duties between the President’s Bodyguard and the Army Guard Battalion. It remains one of the most popular attractions for visitors to the presidential estate.
Authorities clarified that the ceremony will resume after Independence Day celebrations, ensuring that the tradition continues once rehearsals conclude.
The Change of Guard Ceremony has long symbolised the discipline and heritage of India’s armed forces, drawing both domestic and international visitors. The temporary suspension underscores the importance of preparations for the national Independence Day event on August 15.
