Khariar police in Nuapada district cracked a major rice truck theft case within six hours and arrested two inter-district criminals along with the stolen goods.
On May 25, 2026, unidentified miscreants stole a rice-laden truck near Khariar Badapol. The truck belonged to Kesinga businessman Sushil Jain and carried 78 rice packets, each weighing 50 kilograms. Jain lodged a written complaint at Khariar police station, leading to registration of PS Case No. 171 under Section 303(2) BNS.
Under the direct supervision of Khariar IIC, a special police team led by SI Arbind Meher swung into action. The team included ASI Rama Krushna Reddy, Havildar P.K. Sindur, Constables Sumit Tandi and Raghunath Hans, and Home Guard Sumitra Nag. They tracked habitual property offenders and conducted intensive raids across the locality.
Their relentless effort paid off. Within six hours, police arrested Khirdhar Sagar (31) of Bongomunda, Bolangir, and Abinash Nayak (32) of Khariar, Nuapada. Officers seized the stolen truck, 78 rice bags, and a motorcycle used in the crime.
On May 26, 2026, police formally arrested both accused and produced them before the JMFC Court, Khariar. The swift rice truck theft investigation earned widespread praise from local residents and the business community.
