The Water Resources Department has indicated a minor flood situation in the Mahanadi, while confirming that other major rivers in Odisha remain stable.
Engineer‑in‑Chief Dillip Kumar Rout told reporters that rivers such as Baitarani, Salandi, Subarnarekha, and Brahmani are currently under control with no flood threat. However, rainfall in Chhattisgarh has led to a rise in the water level of the Mahanadi, prompting concerns of a small flood.
At Mundali, the water flow is estimated to increase from 6.5 lakh cusecs to 6.7 lakh cusecs, a marginal rise that does not pose a risk of major flooding. The additional water is expected to persist for 8–10 hours before receding.
Earlier, flash floods were reported in the Bansadhara river basin, but the situation has since improved with water levels falling. With no rainfall forecast for the next three days, officials expect further improvement in the overall flood scenario.
The Water Resources Department is keeping a close watch on all major rivers and barrages, while advising residents in low‑lying areas to remain alert. Authorities have assured that unless there is fresh heavy rainfall, conditions will gradually normalise.
