Jayadev Vihar Nandankanan traffic crisis

Traffic congestion along the Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan corridor, one of the busiest stretches in the capital, has reached a breaking point.

Thousands of office‑goers, IT professionals, students, and even ambulances are stuck for long hours in gridlock, with commuters reporting delays of 40–50 minutes to cover just a few kilometres.

The government had earlier planned parallel roads on both sides of the corridor to ease pressure, but delays in administrative clearances, eviction processes, and incomplete construction have left them non‑functional. As a result, all vehicles continue to depend on the main road, intensifying jams during peak hours.

The situation has worsened with the start of soil testing work for the proposed Rs 579‑crore elevated corridor and 8‑lane road project. Barricading at key junctions—Jayadev Vihar, Kalinga Hospital, Damana, and KIIT Square—has further restricted traffic flow.

Local residents and daily commuters have expressed frustration, urging the government to make the parallel roads operational on a war footing before pushing ahead with the elevated corridor project. They argue that diverting vehicles to the parallel routes would immediately reduce pressure on the main road and provide relief to North Bhubaneswar residents.
