To reduce road crash fatalities, Odisha Police, in coordination with the State Transport Authority (STA), organised a one‑day Road Safety & Crash Investigation Training Programme at the Office of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Kataka.
Supervised by Dr Satyajit Naik, IGP, Central Range, the programme brought together police officers and road safety stakeholders with technical experts from IIT Madras and STA’s technical consultants. The sessions focused on scientific crash investigation techniques including crash scene examination, evidence collection, crash reconstruction, and analysis of contributing factors.
Experts stressed the importance of converting crash findings into actionable preventive measures, identifying accident patterns, vulnerable locations, and engineering or human factors behind crashes.
Dr Naik told participants: “Every road crash provides valuable information about the gaps that need to be addressed. A scientific investigation helps us understand those gaps and enables us to take preventive measures so that similar crashes can be avoided in the future.”
At the valedictory ceremony, Shri Amitabh Thakur, IPS, Transport Commissioner‑cum‑Chairman, STA, said: “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Scientific investigation, reliable data and coordinated action by all stakeholders are essential to identify the real causes of crashes and develop effective preventive measures.”
The programme concluded with certificate distribution, reinforcing Odisha’s commitment to building a scientific, technology‑enabled, and evidence‑based road safety ecosystem.
