In a major boost to rail infrastructure in Odisha, a brand-new Puri-Koraput Express train will soon start services, bringing faster and more convenient travel between the sacred city of Puri and the tribal heartland of Koraput.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the development today and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the much-awaited train. “This new express will strengthen rail links across eastern, western, and southern Odisha and open up new opportunities for pilgrims, tourists, and local communities,” the Chief Minister said.
The train will run via Sambalpur, making it easier for devotees from the Koraput and Sambalpur regions to reach the Jagannath Temple in Puri. It will operate three days a week to ensure reliable connectivity without overburdening the existing network.
Train Schedule
- Train No. 18407 (Puri → Koraput): Departs Puri on Monday, Thursday & Saturday
- Train No. 18408 (Koraput → Puri): Departs Koraput on Tuesday, Friday & Sunday
The train will have 19 stoppages: Khordha Road, Bhubaneswar, Naraj-Marathapur, Dhenkanal, Talcher Road, Angul, Baitarani Road, Rairakhol, Sambalpur, Baragarh Road, Balangir, Titlagarh, Kesinga, Muniguda, Rayagada, Tikiri, Laxmipur Road, Kiriromi, and Damanjodi.
This new service is expected to transform travel in the region, promote religious tourism, and support economic growth in southern and western Odisha.
