Heavy rain since last night has lashed the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Kataka, disrupting normal life and leaving several low-lying areas submerged.
By 5:00 am today, Bhubaneswar recorded 97.2 mm of rainfall, with Madhusudan Nagar reporting the highest at 107.0 mm.
Other localities also witnessed intense showers: Nayapalli (97.2 mm), Jagmohan Nagar (90.4 mm), Lakshmi Sagar (90.0 mm), Sahid Nagar (83.2 mm), Khandagiri (73.2 mm), Kharabela Nagar (59.4 mm), Chandrasekharpur (50.2 mm), and Patia (34.6 mm), according to Zomato AWS stations.
The downpour caused waterlogging in several bastis, including Shantipalli, where nearly 20 homes were flooded, leaving residents distressed. Across the capital, slippery roads and inundated stretches hampered public movement, while daily activities in both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were severely affected.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid flooded areas, and stay alert as the wet spell shows no immediate signs of easing.
