Shock and grief have engulfed Rangpur city after a retired schoolteacher, his wife, daughter, and young son were found dead inside their locked home in Daspara (Machhuapara) late Saturday night.
The victims were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty (65), a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School; his wife Pritilata (50); their daughter Agami (23), who had recently completed her Master’s in English; and their son Priyam (12), a Class 5 student.
Police broke into the house around 11:30 p.m. after relatives raised alarm when repeated calls went unanswered, and all four mobile phones remained switched off since Thursday night. The bodies were found in different parts of the house—Ganapati on the roof, Pritilata and Agami on the staircase, and Priyam under a bed.
Family members expressed shock, saying the Chakrabortys had no known enemies. Ganapati had retired only last December and was working as a homoeopathic practitioner.
Investigating agencies, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch, have joined the probe. Police said the motive and circumstances remain unclear, and forensic teams are examining the scene.
