The death toll in the Nayagarh firecracker blast climbed to three after Hadibandhu Sethi, owner of the firecracker unit at Korada village, died while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The explosion occurred on April 3 during preparations for the Dasapalla Lankapodi Yatra.
Earlier, two labourers — Niranjan Nahak of Korada and Bapuni Nahak of Mina Gadiya — had died from severe burn injuries. At least six people, including a minor boy, sustained critical injuries in the blast. Fire services and police rushed to the site immediately after the incident and shifted the injured to Nuagaon Primary Health Centre. Five of them were later moved to the District Headquarters Hospital and subsequently referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced care.
Reports confirm that three injured persons are still receiving treatment at AIIMS. One remains stable, while the condition of the other two is critical. The tragedy has shaken Korada village, raising concerns about safety standards in firecracker units.
