Krushnaprasad Police have arrested 18 accused persons within 48 hours in connection with the murder of minor boy Omm Shikari (15) in Chilika Lake.
The case, registered as Krushnaprasad PS Case No. 212/2026, initially began as a kidnapping with attempt to murder but was later classified as dacoity with murder. The incident occurred on August 10 between 6–7 PM, when a group of prawn pirates from Chandraput village, Khordha district, armed with deadly weapons, attacked locals at Kumarpur village.
During the assault, complainant Chinmay Behera, his brother, and Omm Shikari were targeted. While the complainant and his brother managed to escape, Omm succumbed to injuries. His body was recovered nearly 20 hours later.
Police seized three boats and wooden sticks during raids across Puri, Ganjam, and Khordha districts. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of SP Puri, with multiple teams led by SDPO Puri Sadar and IIC Krushnaprasad.
Authorities confirmed that forensic and medical evidence is being collected, and each accused’s role will be established scientifically. Police also pledged stringent action against illegal prawn‑piracy activities in and around Chilika Lake.
