The ninth and final day of Shardiya Navratri falls on Monday, October 19, 2026, honoring Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga.
Revered as the bestower of siddhis (spiritual accomplishments) and supreme wisdom, her worship signifies the culmination of the nine-day devotional journey.
As devotees observe Maha Navami, the day brings together family traditions, sacred chants, and rituals such as Kanya Puja and Navami Havan.
Significance of Maa Siddhidatri
- The Giver of Siddhis: Her name combines Siddhi (perfection/accomplishment) and Datri (giver). She represents ultimate spiritual enlightenment, inner strength, and fulfillment.
- Form & Symbolism: Seated gracefully on a lotus or riding a lion, Maa Siddhidatri is depicted with four arms holding a lotus, mace (gada), discus (chakra), and conch shell (shankha).
- Day 9 Color (2026): Peacock Green is the designated color for October 19. Representing renewal, growth, and harmony, devotees often wear this shade during worship.
Maa Siddhidatri Puja Vidhi
- Purification: Take an early morning bath and clean the worship space. Place the idol or image of Maa Siddhidatri near the Navratri Kalash.
- Offerings: Prepare a puja thali with fresh flowers, kumkum, rice grains (akshat), incense, and a lighted lamp (diya).
- Bhog (Offerings): Present sesame seeds (til) or sesame-based preparations as the traditional offering. Seasonal fruits, coconut, and sweets are also offered.
- Mantra Recitation: Recite the sacred mantra with devotion 11, 21, or 108 times.
- Katha & Aarti: Read or listen to the Maa Siddhidatri story, perform the aarti, and distribute prasad among family members.
Sacred Mantras for Day 9
Primary Mantra
- Sanskrit: ॥ ॐ देवी सिद्धिदात्र्यै नमः ॥
- Transliteration: Om Devi Siddhidatryai Namah
- Meaning: I bow to Goddess Siddhidatri, the divine giver of spiritual accomplishments and blessings.
Kanya Puja & Navami Rituals
Kanya Pujan (Kanjak) is an integral aspect of Maha Navami:
- The Ritual: Young girls representing the divine feminine are welcomed into the home, their feet are washed, and tilak is applied to their foreheads.
- Traditional Feast: Devotees serve a traditional prasad of puri, halwa, and black chana (kale chana), along with small gifts or money (dakshina).
- Tithi Note for 2026: Because the Ashtami tithi extends into the morning of October 19 before Navami begins, devotees should consult their local Panchang to confirm the exact shubh muhurat for Kanya Puja and Havan according to their family customs.
Following Maha Navami, celebrations transition into Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
