A shocking incident in Ghuman Nagar, Patiala, has left a couple seriously injured after a pit bull attacked them for more than 65 seconds while they were visiting a property with a dealer.
The victims, Ankit Sabharwal, a private bank manager, and his wife Shifali Sabharwal, a professor at Chandigarh University, rang the doorbell of a house when the pitbull rushed out and pounced on them. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the dog bit both victims on multiple parts of their bodies. They were later admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
A disturbing video of the attack has gone viral on social media, prompting police action. DSP Jangjit Randhawa confirmed that legal proceedings will begin once Shifali’s medical report is received. An FIR is expected under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which covers pet animal attacks.
Randhawa also said police will act against owners of dangerous breeds in line with court orders, and hinted at a special campaign after August 15 to identify such cases. The incident comes amid rising concerns over pitbull attacks, including a similar case in Delhi’s Prem Nagar last year where a six‑year‑old boy was mauled.
