A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning at a car service centre near Haladiapadar bus terminal on the outskirts of Brahmapur, triggering a large-scale firefighting operation.
The blaze, reported around 6 a.m., prompted the deployment of more than 10 fire tenders from Brahmapur and nearby areas, including Chikiti, Patrapur, Ganjam, Chhatrapur, and Rambha, along with the striking force.
The fire spread rapidly through the premises, gutting several vehicles, car parts, and materials stored inside. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly destroyed. Firefighters faced challenges entering the building as the doors were locked, forcing them to cut open the gates before launching the operation.
To tackle the intense flames safely, robotic monitors were pressed into service, allowing firefighters to control the blaze from a distance. After several hours of effort, the fire was brought under control and completely doused, officials confirmed.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause is yet to be determined. Officials are now assessing the extent of damage and conducting a detailed inquiry.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety compliance at commercial establishments in the region, prompting calls for stricter inspections and preventive measures.
