Police recovered a skeleton from an abandoned canteen of a closed spinning mill in the Asika Kotinada area, sparking allegations of murder from the victim’s family.
The remains belonged to Shankar Patra, son of A. Laxman Patra of Narasinghpur village. Shankar had gone missing 18 months ago, and his family had lodged a complaint at Kotinada police station. The discovery shocked the community, as family members identified the skeleton by the shirt, pants, and shoes found at the site.
Police seized the skeleton and sent it to Berhampur for DNA testing to confirm identity. Family members accused unknown persons of murdering Shankar and abandoning his body in the deserted canteen. They demanded justice and urged authorities to investigate thoroughly.
The skeleton recovery after 18 months reignited concerns about unresolved missing cases in the region. Family members insisted that Shankar did not disappear voluntarily and pointed to suspicious circumstances surrounding the recovery. They alleged foul play and pressed for accountability.
Police acknowledged the recovery but did not issue an immediate response to the murder allegations. The case now hinges on DNA test results, which will establish confirmation of identity and guide further investigation.
