A shocking twist emerged in Bhubaneswar after police confirmed that the death of engineering student Baren Rautaray near Acharya Harihar College Square in Chandrasekharpur was a planned murder, not an accident.
DCP Jagmohan Meena said the crime stemmed from a love triangle that led to hostility between the victim and the accused. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the attackers allegedly chased and rammed their car into Baren’s bike after a heated argument near a lassi shop.
Eyewitnesses reported that the group first assaulted the victim with a cricket stump before deliberately running him over. Police detained five suspects and seized the car and a bike used in the attack. One of the accused is said to be a friend of the deceased.
The DCP confirmed that the confrontation began after a quarrel involving several youths. Investigators found that the accused followed the victim and intentionally struck his motorcycle. Two other riders sustained injuries and are being treated.
Police registered a murder case at Chandrasekharpur Police Station and launched a detailed investigation. Officers are verifying CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to establish the sequence of events.
