A fresh wave of burglaries in Rayagada city and Sesakhal has sparked fear among residents, with criminals openly challenging police patrols.
On Wednesday night, burglars targeted an apartment near the district police office in Rayagada’s Bank Colony, cutting through a grill lock on the second floor and looting valuables. In another incident, thieves broke into a nearby house, disabling CCTV cameras before escaping with stolen goods.
The crime spree extended to Sesakhal police limits, where miscreants raided the home of poultry trader Gangaraju at Jemadeipentha Godown Square. Reports say the gang sprayed chemicals to render him unconscious before looting 70 tolas of silver ornaments, half a tola of gold and ₹50,000 in cash.
Residents expressed anger over repeated thefts and alleged police inaction, saying the lack of effective patrols has emboldened criminals. Police have begun investigations at the crime scenes, but the incidents have created an atmosphere of panic and insecurity in the region.
Authorities assured that intensified patrols and strict action will follow, but locals remain wary as burglaries continue to rise.
