Cuttack: A major fire broke out on the 3rd floor of a private hospital in the Purighat area in Cuttack district on Saturday afternoon.
As per reports, the locals saw smoke emanating from a part of the building. They immediately informed the fire department. Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an operation to extinguish the blaze. The patients were safely rescued with the help of ladders.
Some patients have already been rescued and shifted in ambulances to other hospitals in the city. About nine serious patients have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. The children are being shifted to Sishu Bhavan.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, it is suspected that an electric short circuit might have led to the mishap.
