A low‑pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood under the influence of an upper‑air cyclonic circulation off the West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported today at 5:30 AM.
The system is expected to bring squally weather with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, across the northwest and adjoining west‑central Bay of Bengal. Rough to very rough sea conditions are likely along and off the West Bengal, Odisha, and north Andhra Pradesh coasts until August 24.
The IMD has issued a fishermen warning, advising them not to venture into the sea in these regions during the period. Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving system as coastal districts brace for heavy rain and strong winds.
