A tragic road accident was reported in Odisha’s Koraput district after an Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) Volvo bus plunged into a deep gorge in the Sunki Ghat area. At least one passenger has lost their life, while several others sustained injuries.
Incident Details
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 3:00 AM. The bus was travelling from Bhawanipatna to Visakhapatnam when it reportedly collided with a truck near a sharp bend at Sunki Ghat.
The impact caused the driver to lose control, following which the bus veered off the road and fell nearly 50 feet into a gorge.
Casualties and Rescue Operations
The bus was carrying around 25 passengers at the time of the accident. Reports suggest that 15 to 18 individuals were injured in the crash. All injured passengers were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital in Potangi for medical treatment.
Emergency response teams, including local police and fire services personnel, reached the site promptly and carried out rescue operations.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials are examining factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, and the circumstances of the collision.
