Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu was detained by Punjab Police in Ludhiana on Saturday after allegedly attempting to throw eggs and tomatoes at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy near the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) gate.

Bittu, who was present at the PAU for the Kisan Mela, also held up a liquor bottle, claiming he was “returning it” to the Chief Minister. He accused Mann of indulging in liquor while allowing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to “loot Punjab.”

Police said Bittu was detained before he could get close to the convoy. His office, however, claimed he was only trying to hand over eggshells and other material from Friday’s alleged attack on his cavalcade near Batala, where he accused AAP workers of surrounding and damaging his vehicles.

Bittu, a Z‑plus protectee, alleged that around 500 people attacked his convoy, some carrying weapons. He criticised local police for acting as “mute spectators” and demanded an FIR.

The incident comes amid the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, which Bittu was scheduled to attend in Pathankot. The yatra, flagged off by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, will cover 4,000 km across all 117 Assembly constituencies before concluding in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to address a rally.
