The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day weather advisory for Odisha, warning of widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several districts between June 14 and June 18, 2026.

According to the forecast, multiple districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface winds, particularly in southern Odisha, where weather conditions are expected to remain active during the initial phase of the forecast period.

Orange Warning Issued for Southern Odisha Districts

The IMD has placed several southern districts under an Orange Warning due to the likelihood of severe thunderstorm activity, heavy rainfall, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph.

The districts expected to face the most significant weather impact include:

  • Rayagada
  • Gajapati
  • Kandhamal
  • Koraput
  • Malkangiri

Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain alert as thunderstorms and intense rainfall may disrupt normal activities and cause localized damage.

Day-Wise Odisha Weather Forecast

June 14: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Expected

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely across most districts of Odisha.

The IMD has warned of:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning
  • Heavy rainfall at isolated locations
  • Gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph
  • Reduced visibility during intense weather spells

Hot and humid conditions may continue in some coastal districts despite the rainfall activity.

June 15: Weather Activity Continues

Thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to persist across several parts of the state.

Orange Warning districts include:

  • Rayagada
  • Koraput
  • Malkangiri
  • Gajapati

Heavy rainfall and strong winds may impact transportation, agriculture, and outdoor activities.

June 16–18: Yellow Alert Remains in Force

From June 16 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to continue across southern, coastal, and interior districts.

The IMD has maintained Yellow Warnings in many regions, indicating:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning
  • Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph
  • Intermittent moderate rainfall
  • Localized weather disturbances

Coastal Odisha is likely to continue receiving rain during the latter part of the forecast period.

Potential Impact on Agriculture and Infrastructure

The weather system may affect standing crops, plantations, and horticultural activities across several districts.

According to meteorological assessments, the following sectors may be vulnerable:

  • Banana plantations
  • Vegetable cultivation
  • Horticultural crops
  • Young agricultural plantations

Strong winds may also lead to:

  • Falling tree branches
  • Damage to temporary structures
  • Disruption of power supply
  • Damage to communication lines in isolated areas

IMD Advises Public to Remain Vigilant

The IMD has urged residents to exercise caution during thunderstorm activity and follow safety guidelines.

People are advised to:

  • Stay indoors during thunderstorms
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather
  • Seek shelter in safe structures
  • Avoid standing under trees during lightning
  • Stay away from concrete walls and floors during lightning strikes
  • Follow updates issued by local authorities

Monsoon Activity Strengthens Across Odisha

The latest forecast comes shortly after the southwest monsoon advanced into Odisha, bringing widespread rainfall to several districts.

Meteorologists expect monsoon-related weather activity to remain active over the state in the coming days, providing relief from summer heat while increasing the risk of localized thunderstorms and heavy rain events.

Residents are advised to monitor official weather bulletins and remain prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
