Bhubaneswar/Sambalpur: The excess floodwater is currently being discharged through 20 sluice gates of Hirakud dam as the water inflow is rising.

The water level of Hirkud dam now stands at 621.95ft by 9 am, officials said.

The water inflow into the reservoir is around 3,50, 000 cusecs per second while the outflow is almost similar.

Engineer-in-chief of Water Resources Department, Bhakta Ranjan Mohanty said the water inflow is decreasing gradually in absence of rainfall in the upper catchment.

Around 2, 61, 500 cusecs of Mahanadi water is now flowing at Mundali.

Water level of major rivers has started receding minimizing the threat of flood. There is no need to panic, he added.
