Heavy Rainfall Alert For Odisha: SRC Asks Collectors To Monitor Situation

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha will experience thunderstorm and heavy rainfall till August 30. Following this, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today issued an advisory to the Collectors directing them to closely monitor the situation.

The SRC said: As per the midday weather bulletin issued by IMD today, under the influence of cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal coast, a low pressure area has formed and lies over northwest adjoining westcentral BOB off south Odisha, North Andhra Pradesh coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts from August 28th to 30th.”

The Collectors have been asked to circulate the warning message among the public and take appropriate action in case of any eventuality.

WEATHER FORECAST AND WARNING:

Day 1- Valid from 1330 hrs IST of 28.08.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2021:

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South Odisha and at many places over the districts of North Odisha.

1. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, & Nabarangpur.

2. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhranj, Angul, & Dhenkanal.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2021:

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South interior Odisha and at many places over the rest districts of Odisha.

 

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, & Rayagada.
