A fire broke out at an under-construction ethanol plant near Gateri village under Nuagaon police limits in Nayagada district, leaving four workers seriously injured on Wednesday.
The blaze erupted during boiler testing in one of the units, according to preliminary reports. The injured workers—Bibhuti Pradhan (Kanigiri), Sharat Sahu (Mahipur), Dillip Nayak (Ghadeibandha), and Braja Kishore Pradhan (Itamati)—were first admitted to the Nayagada District Headquarters Hospital. As their condition worsened, they were shifted to Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
The ethanol unit has been under construction for several days by a private company. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear, and authorities are expected to probe the incident thoroughly.
