In a massive push toward modernizing public safety infrastructure and reducing response times during emergencies, the State Police Headquarters, Kataka, has officially issued office order distribution details for 4,195 positions under Phase-III of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
The order issued with the approval of the Director General of Police (DGP) follows instructions from the Home Department to strengthen the state’s unified emergency number, Dial-112.
District-Wise Cadre Breakup
The newly sanctioned workforce spans multiple ranks—ranging from Constables to Assistant Commandants—ensuring operational efficiency across state headquarters, urban police districts, and rural police establishments.
The overall category-wise breakdown of sanctioned posts includes:
- Constables: 2,699
- Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI): 972
- Havildar Majors: 377
- Sub-Inspectors (SI): 108
- Sub-Inspectors (Armed): 36
- Assistant Commandants (AC): 1
- Additional SP / Deputy Commandants: 2
Major allotments have been made to high-density districts, including Koraput (212), Kendujhar (202), Anugola (192), Ganjam (192), Sambalpur (192), Baleshwar (183), Rourkela (183), Jajpur (172), Puri (172), and Balangir (163). Key urban centers and specialized control rooms (SERC/MERC) have also received designated postings.

The deployment of this dedicated workforce into ERSS Phase-III will streamline operations at the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and the Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC), as well as field deployment via Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs).
By increasing human resources at the grass-roots level, the police department aims to ensure seamless 24/7 coordination between callers in distress and field teams, drastically lowering average response times during law and order, medical, or fire emergencies across the state.
