ECI Transfers Home Secretaries Of 6 States and Bengal DGP

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday ordered the removal of Home Secretaries in six states – Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for free and fair elections.

The General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh are also removed by the ECI.

Additionally, the Commission has removed the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP). This decision was taken considering several instances of poll-related violence in recent years under the supervision of the DGP.

Meanwhile, the commission has instructed State Governments to transfer officers who have completed three years or been appointed in their home districts but still have their involvement in election-related work.

Municipal Commissioners and some Additional/Deputy Municipal Commissioners in Maharashtra are also expected to get transferred with the report submitted to the Commission by 6 pm today.

According to reports, Officials removed were holding dual roles in the Chief Minister offices in their respective states.

The commission chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, attended by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh made all these decisions. The aim was to guarantee an election that is fair, transparent and unbiased eliminating any possible threats to impartiality or neutrality.
