Gunupur: An inebriated man hacked his nephew to death with an axe at Harijan Basti of Sirijholi village under Gunupur police station limits in Rayagada district on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as S. Ramesh while the accused man was identified as S Budu.
On intimation, Assistant IIC of Gunpur police station, Kalpana Behera, reached the spot and arrested the accused, S. Budu. The axe used in the crime and the dead body was seized by the police.
Sources said both of them got drunk last night a violent quarrel broke out between them. In a fit of rage, accused S. Budu hit his nephew Ramesh with an axe killing him on the spot.
Additional SP Amiya Dhar said that following a written complaint lodged by the local ward member, Gunpur police station has registered Case No. 105/2023 and is investigating the incident.
