Virtual proceedings at the Delhi High Court were disrupted multiple times on Wednesday after objectionable content was played during an ongoing hearing.
The incident occurred during a session conducted via video conferencing before the Chief Justice, raising serious concerns about cybersecurity in judicial processes.
According to officials, the disruption happened repeatedly, interrupting the normal flow of proceedings and prompting immediate attention from court authorities.
Suspected Cyber Breach Under Investigation
Following the incident, the court administration approached the Delhi Police, specifically its Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, seeking a detailed investigation.
A preliminary inquiry has been launched to determine whether the disruption resulted from unauthorised access or a technical vulnerability in the system. Officials confirmed that the matter is at an early stage, and a comprehensive probe is underway.
‘You’ve Been Hacked’ Message Raises Alarm
During the hearing, an unidentified participant allegedly displayed a message stating “you’ve been hacked,” accompanied by an automated audio alert suggesting a breach in the system.
Authorities have not yet verified the authenticity or source of the message. However, the repeated nature of the intrusion has intensified concerns over potential cyber interference in sensitive judicial platforms.
Cyber Unit to Examine System Logs and Access Data
Investigators from the cyber unit are expected to analyse:
- System logs and login records
- Access permissions and participant activity
- Possible vulnerabilities in the video conferencing platform
The findings will determine whether the incident was a deliberate cyberattack or a case of misuse by an authorised participant.
Concerns Over Digital Security in Courts
The disruption has once again highlighted the challenges of maintaining secure virtual environments for critical institutions like courts. With increasing reliance on digital hearings, ensuring robust cybersecurity frameworks has become essential to safeguard the integrity of judicial proceedings.
