Nuapada witnessed a dramatic fallout after the escape of a convicted prisoner serving a 20-year sentence. Jailor Balaram Bisi Majhi has been suspended following allegations of negligence in prison security.
On September 7, around 8 a.m., convict Biswa Bihari Majhi (30) fled from Nuapada Sub-Jail while cleaning duties were underway. He belongs to Kandulkona village under Sinapali police station. Authorities launched a search operation immediately after the incident.
Biswa Bihari was convicted in 2021 for a rape case and sentenced in 2023 to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Nuapada court. His escape has triggered serious questions about the effectiveness of prison security and monitoring systems.
The suspension of Jailor Majhi marks the first disciplinary step, but officials confirm further investigation into staff responsibilities and lapses. The inquiry will determine how the convict managed to breach security layers and whether other personnel were complicit or negligent.
