Ganjam: In a fresh development in the custodial death of a man, Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) on Tuesday suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable of Golanthara Police Station.
According to reports, ASI PC Acharya and constable DP Jena of Golanthara PS have been suspended for gross negligence in their duties while the IIC of the police station has also been transferred. Besides, Gopalpur IIC Bibekananda Mahanta has been posted as the new in-charge at Golanthara Police Station.
The development comes following the visit of the Southern Range DIGP and Berhampur SP to the police station for a preliminary investigation into the incident.
A special team under the supervision of Additional SP has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, police sources said.
