Custodial Death: Bargarh SP Recommends HRPC Probe

Bargarh: The Bargarh Superintendent of Police has requested ADG, Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) to conduct an independent probe into the alleged custodial death of a youth here.

Meanwhile alleging that police excess led to the death of Gobinda Kumbhar, a resident of Tora village, his brother Jiten Kumbhar has demanded stringent punishment for the culprits.

As many as four police personnel of Bargarh Town PS have been withdrawn from the post and attached to RO in connection with the custodial death of a 35-year-old man in Bargarh district.

According to reports, the police personnel including a sub-inspector, 2 ASIs, and a home guard have been relieved from all duties.

There was furore in Bargarh town Saturday in the wake of Kumhar’s death as the bereaved family members termed it as a planned murder by the cops and demanded disciplinary action against them. They also resorted to obstruct road with the body bearing several bleeding injuries.
