Odisha Vigilance has arrested Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, Chief Engineer, Plan Roads, RW Department, for possession of disproportionate assets.
He will be presented today before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
The arrest follows an investigation into Sarangi’s unexplained wealth, resulting in the registration of Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 14/2025.
Searches conducted at his properties revealed cash exceeding Rs 2.56 crore, along with multiple real estate holdings, high-value investments, and luxury items.
Among the assets seized are:
-
Two multi-storeyed buildings
-
Two flats
-
Seven high-value plots
-
Bank deposits worth Rs 1.5 crore
-
Investments in shares, mutual funds, and insurance totalling Rs 2.7 crore
-
Over 1 kg of gold

In a dramatic turn during the raid, Sarangi allegedly attempted to dispose of cash by throwing bundles of Rs 500 notes out of his flat window, which were quickly recovered by vigilance officers.
