The Government of India has assigned additional charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, to Shri Sanjeev Chopra, a senior IAS officer of the Odisha cadre (1990 batch).
The appointment follows the superannuation of Shri Subrata Gupta, IAS (West Bengal cadre, 1990), on May 31, 2025. Chopra, who is currently serving as Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, will assume this dual responsibility until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders.
Having held key bureaucratic positions, Chopra brings vast experience in governance and policy implementation. He has played a crucial role in food security, distribution reforms, and cooperative banking, previously serving as District Magistrate of Koraput, Odisha, and Managing Director of State Cooperative Banks. His academic credentials include degrees from Delhi University, Utkal University, and the London School of Economics & Political Science.
With this move, stakeholders anticipate a smooth transition and continuity in food processing industry initiatives, ensuring streamlined supply chains and enhanced sector growth.
