Fresh details have emerged in the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi, with the teenager telling police that three men posing as policemen threatened her and her male friend with weapons before taking her to a secluded area of the park.
According to the FIR registered on the teenager’s complaint, the girl, a resident of Faridabad, had visited the Kalkaji temple with her 17-year-old male friend on her birthday. The two later entered Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7 at around 7 pm before planning to visit the nearby ISKCON Temple.
Men allegedly posed as policemen
The teenager told police that she and her friend were sitting on a bench when three men, aged between 30 and 35, approached them.
The men allegedly identified themselves as policemen and questioned the two about their presence in the park. They allegedly assaulted the girl’s friend and took away both their mobile phones.
According to the FIR, two of the men then called the teenager towards a secluded area despite her asking them to speak to her at the spot or contact her mother.
The FIR states that one of the accused, identified as Asif, allegedly displayed a firearm. The teenager also told police that she was threatened with knives during the assault.
Teen’s account helps police identify accused
After the alleged assault, the three men reportedly returned the teenager’s clothes and the phones and instructed the two teenagers to leave the park without informing anyone.
The girl’s friend subsequently contacted the police control room and reported the incident.
Despite the trauma, the teenager was able to provide investigators with details about the accused, including Asif’s name, nicknames associated with the other two men and descriptions of their clothing, according to police.
Police identified the other accused as Hemant Singh, 31, and his younger brother Mukesh Singh.
Three accused arrested
Police arrested Asif early Tuesday following a brief exchange of fire, according to the report. His two alleged accomplices were subsequently arrested from their residence in Srinivaspuri.
The investigation is underway, with police examining available evidence and reconstructing the sequence of events.
The case has also triggered concerns over security and basic facilities at Aastha Kunj Park, including lighting and security arrangements.
